On February 1st, 2013, I participated in the first World Hijab Day. It was a Friday, and I had an English class to attend. I woke up a little bit earlier than normal, watched a few YouTube tutorials on how to put on a hijab, and off I went about my daily routine. I would commute via public transportation for nearly two hours to get to class.

The merits of getting married, and especially getting married at an early age, are very great. There are numerous verses of the Holy Qur'an and sayings from the Holy Prophet and his Ahl-ul-Bayt (peace be upon them all) which extol the virtues of getting married. Many of these traditions are almost common knowledge among Muslims, such as marriage completing half of your faith and one unit of prayer of a married person being equal to seventy units of prayer of an unmarried person. The examples in history are also there, as many of our Imams got married at an early age.

During Israel's 1982 invasion of Lebanon, all of us living in besieged West Beirut were aware that the Israeli military was seeking to eliminate the leadership of the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO), and had no qualms about killing large numbers of civilians in the process. We knew this from the aerial bombardment of the area around Beirut's Arab University, where the PLO had many of its offices. Dozens of apartment buildings there had been reduced to rubble.

How to Feel the Joy of Worship?
It has been a while that I did not like to say my prayers. I find a lot of excuses in order not to say my prayers. For example, I tell myself that I will say my prayers after I watch a movie. But after that, I study or I find other things to do, just because I do not want to say my prayers. I do not know why this has happened to me. Why can’t I enjoy saying my prayers?

God has legislative and genetic plans for educating the soul of people and has included difficulties in both plans. The legislative plan elaborates worships and the genetic plan involves difficulties aimed at testing people and ultimately educating and developing them. Prayer, fasting, Hajj, Jihad and hypocrisy are difficulties that come with obligations and patience and resistance in doing them leads to development of transcendental talents.

Salafism has been introduced by some so-called radical Sunni theologians who have wrong understanding of thoughts of theologians such as Ibn Taymiyyah and Ibn Qayyim al-Jawziyyah. Extremist Salafism is a deviatory and shallow cult that stands poles apart from the spirit of Islam’s life-giving teachings, has spewed nothing but discord, destruction, ruin and corruption among the Islamic Ummah. This cult has a weak belief base and offers shallow interpretations from Qur’an and narrations.

Tanineyas:In Islam, we are taught to constantly improve our spiritual status so that we may gain nearness to Allah. If we perform our daily prayers, we should improve by learning the meaning of the words and actions; if we know the meaning of the words and actions, we should improve by reflecting over them; if we reflect over the meanings, we should improve by attaining a greater sense of God-consciousness. The journey continues in degrees as we understand the meaning and strive to implement what we have learned – all in the way of heightening our awareness of Allah's Greatness.

It is hard enough living with my imperfections and weaknesses, but I cannot live another day denying You
